As some of you may be aware, Lyon-Martin Health Services, a non-profit health organization for women and transgender patients is in a deep financial crisis. Though I raised money for them last year as a Karma Pervs recipient, I’m going to also devote February for even more fundraising. Their existence and continued service is vital. Lyon-Martin is the clinic that I go to, and many of my friends depend upon.
Last year, Lyon-Martin provided care to almost 2,500 patients who were queer-identified, people of color, and homeless or marginally housed. They detected breast cancer, treated patients with HIV, diabetes, abnormal pap smears (which may have progressed to cervical cancer) and also provided care and distributed hormones to hundreds of transgender patients. In addition to physical care they also provide counseling. And all of their services are sliding scale to allow for service to people of varying income levels.
The immediate goal is to raise $250,000. At a benefit held at El Rio last weekend, we raised $60,000 in about three hours, thanks to a matching pledge by Water Restoration. We’re really close to reaching this amount and any little bit helps. You can donate online, by mail (1748 Market Street, Suite 201, San Francisco, CA 94102) or phone (415-901-7131), and also through purchasing some of the films I’m selling to raise money.
Special Orders – Signed DVDs $50
To do what I can, I am selling signed DVDs at $50 each to benefit the health organization. These videos normally retail at around $30 and include titles by Courtney Trouble, Carlos Batts, Madison Young and Shine Louise Houston. Click over to my film page to select a video. Look for any title that has a note that it’s available. Then contact me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to arrange for me to send it to you.
Thank you for helping keep my health care at Lyon-Martin!
