Karma Pervs 2010 Wrap-Up: A Year in Donations

It’s hard to believe next year is already next week!

2010 marked a lot of things for me, and perhaps I’ll cover that in another year-in-review post, but for the moment one of the biggest things twenty-ten saw was the launch of my experimental philanthropic project Karma Pervs.

What is Karma Pervs? In a nutshell: It’s a porn fundraiser. I choose a charity each month – members see sexy photos for a good cause! I post a unique photo set of pictures related to the cause and at the end of the month 100% is donated to the organization. Sign up to support, see pictures, and also enter to win great prizes!

Though I had intended to launch in January 2010, the process of meeting credit card compliance took a lot longer than I had anticipated. Thus, the first update was posted for March! The photoshoot was a spontaneous collaboration between me and my friend Courtney Trouble in the Locker Room of EROS. I donated the funds to STOP AIDS Project.

Bonus updates included images from a shoot with Aeric Meredith-Goujon.

In April, I modeled for the Center for Sex & Culture’s Erotic Photo Club, and invited the participants (Amelia Avilés, Jeffer, Robert Lawrence, Roxy, M. Moser, nakedlenz, and anonymous) to share their images with me for an update to benefit the Center for Sex & Culture (CSC).

In May, I tried something new. I invited Courtney and my friend Dylan Ryan on as models, and we each took pictures of each other, blurring the lines of model/photographer — with some help from our friend Nic. It was the first time I had additional models in the project, which was a benefit for St. James Infirmary.

In June, it was back to a solo set with beautiful images by Tristan Crane at Bakers Beach. (For the record, June is not warm in San Francisco.) The memberships raised money for San Francisco Sex Information (SFSI).

July saw something rarely seen in porn — my bedroom. Morgan Weinert took the images of me in bed for Lyon-Martin Health Services.

Having traveled to Toronto for the Feminist Porn Awards, I was lucky to shoot with N. Maxwel Landers for her “Blindfold Project” which will soon be in print as a collectors book. The images we shot went up for my August update as a benefit to Femina Potens Art Gallery.

In September, I met Lilith Grey and heard about the Sharon Street Cyr. Fund which raises money for charities such as: Hearing from the Heart, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, and the Leather Archives. I was in LA and squeezed in a Padded Kink update so I took the opportunity to invite a co-model again; the lovely Kelly Shibari! We were shot by Courtney Trouble (my scene partner) and big props to Jamye Waxman for letting us take over her house!

October is my birth month, so that update had me itching to try something new. Instead of photography, I invited fans to submit any kind of visual art featuring your’s truly. I got some REALLY cool submissions please log-in to see them! The update went to Scarleteen.com.

November saw an update by Aeric Meredith-Goujon who I had the pleasure to shoot with and again invited Dylan Ryan to co-model. We named Audacia Ray’s Red Umbrella Diaries as the benefactor.

Which brings us to December and the current update by JT who happens to be the same photographer who took the image of me as the month of January for the New York City Sex Bloggers Calendar, which benefited the Woodhull Freedom Fund. I invited Arabelle Raphael as a co-model, and the donations (still 2 days to sign-up) benefit Communities United Against Violence (CUAV).

Several sponsors have helped me attract sign-ups by offering wonderful prizes, including Crystal Delight, VirtuallyAdult, RubyGlass21, Sugar, Babeland, Trinity Romance, Good Releasing, GoodVibes.com, and Maui Kink. I’ve also been blessed to have the updates reported by industry professionals such as Lux Alptraum and Fleshbot.com, Violet Blue’s Tiny Nibbles, Carnal Nation, AltPorn.net, Hot Movies for Her, Sex in Power, The Scavenger, Autostraddle, Pink & White Productions, the Good Vibrations Magazine, an interview with Triangle Films and the Masturbate-a-Thon with PornoHub, as well as friends Bella Vendetta, Thomas Roche, Gina DeVries, Ms. Naughty, Kimberlee Cline, Amie Wee, Garnet Joyce, Vid Tuesday, Tiara the Merch Girl, and Furry Girl.

So far I’ve raised a total of $1400 for charity organizations that are sex-positive and queer/kink friendly. It’s money I wouldn’t have been able to donate on my own and the project has afforded me a lot of fun opportunities to work with great artists and good friends. Thank you all who signed up as members, donated items, and helped me spread the word about the project! January’s update will be beautiful and I’ll keep experimenting with ideas about how to integrate my exploration of sex and art with supporting community and social justice. Such an awesome thing! Not only raising money but also bringing attention to great organizations, some that I (embarrassingly) had not heard of until last night.
