But if I watch myself have sex, am I having sex with myself?

A blog written by Jonah Lehrer “The Neuroscience of Porn” on ScienceBlogs.com poses the idea that we are aroused by watching porn because our brains believe that we are actually doing what we are seeing.
Today I found this post via a blog on Good Vibrations’ blog called “Why Porn Works“. The idea is fascinating and validates the vast different kinds of kink out there. When we relate to porn, and, when we don’t.
I love gay male porn, and I have a suspicion that I love it because it allows me to live vicariously through the talent — a social voyeurism if you will. While I’m watching the scene, I can yield an eight inch dong, and blow sperm all over a cute little twink’s stomach. Prior to lesbian porn with “real” lesbians, gay porn was the way to go. (As an aside, I’ve recently found myself totally getting off to Girl/Girl porn, but for different reasons — probably ones my first wave feminist friends would disagree with, and roll their eyes at their gay for pay sisters.)
I had a great time watching my partner in the film “She’s My Man” by LFactor. In the scene, Syd was fucking a real-life crush, a star and a friend of hers, by the name of Rozen. I LOVED watching Syd get fucked by Rozen on screen. Why? Because I felt like I was fucking her, with the benefit of seeing everything about her reaction and alternate angles that actually having sex just doesn’t afford. Furthermore, whenever I’m watching a scene that both of us are in, I’m too distracted by my own performance to enjoy watching her reactions.
In conclusion, watching your partner in porn with someone is the best porn ever.

I totally agree especially about the gay male porn omg so hot. After a 6 year break from sex I actually started to enjoy porn more after I started having sex again because I could relate better to actors when I had actually done the acts being preformed myself. I kinda wonder what you see in main stream girl/girl porn, I really want to know. I’m normally not attracted to all things feminine and I have been trying to break myself of this habit. I feel like I’m missing out.

I’ve only really started enjoying mainstream Girl/Girl porn recently — after working in the industry, and watching a lot more porn. (Of which I had actually had little knowledge of before I started filming.) I think I learned to adopt a more playful side of gender performance — which I believe is when I stopped being annoyed with fake Girl/Girl stuff, and more amused by it. It’s the lightheartedness which I find fun now. I’ve just posted a new blog about it, spurred by your comment. Thanks for that!
