Just recently, Buck was in Toronto visiting Drew DeVeaux, a friend of mine*. She was invited by Buck to appear with him in a new version of the public service announcement; this time focusing on the prostate and sexual health, particularly among trans women. Drew just updated her blog so you can read about her experience and thoughts about the shoot and health conscious performers in her post PSA with Buck Angel.

These videos promote sexual health for everyone, especially members of the trans and genderqueer community. They ALSO open many people’s mind to the fact that gender is not the same as sexual genitalia. For example: women can have prostates and men can have a cervix. And we all can love and respect our bodies to be able to take care of these parts.

The videos suggest that if you’re interested in making an appointment with your doctor you can contact your nearest LGBTQ Center. I wanted to also share some resources I’ve come across. The National Center for Transgender Equality has helpful links including listing the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association where you can find your nearest LGBT friendly medical provider from their database. And if you’re interested in alternative medicine, Berkeley’s Ohlone Center has an outline on their site with Holistic Health for Transgender & Gender Variant Folks. There’s a lot of real and potential harm in slut-shaming for youths. There are more than a few examples of youth who have been killed, who have committed suicide (incredibly sad), who have struck out against others in violence and fear, because each situation was dangerously elevated by the negative reaction of community members towards their sexuality. The shame, fear, anger, and hatred against sexuality creates a victim out of everyone, especially youth. And while boys are hardly immune to this we often see the victims arise as young women, trans and queer youths.

“Facebook Revenge” is currently posted on tons of blogs and each pretty much say the same thing. I’m weary of the comments found on these sites, reactions by adults which often show disgust over the idea of a young girl being so outwardly sexual. They laugh at her for keeping a list, call her words like slut, whore, bitch, etc…  say she deserved it, point blame at her parents, and many also brag about how “good” their own families or children are for not being [outwardly] sexual at all. Furthermore, a few consider this action as having “ruined her life” — and for this I have to pause. Since when is being sexual and knowing what you want, with whom — and by what deadline! –  a bad thing? I hope this list will add evidence to the fact that teens are sexually active and require honest sex education — not “protection” and definitely not punishment.

The comment, “I ♥ Facebook like you ♥ cock” is admittedly funny, but needs more analysis because the obvious difference is consent. Overall, the comment reactions of the post creep me out because of the judgments being slung around. Mollena replied at me, “I wish she’d been able to own it…THAT would have taken the wind out his sails!” And I agree! The whole point of the sensationalism of this thing is the very fact that it’s “embarrassing”. I wish it was more acceptable to be a slut.

When I was a teen, I was sexually active and found negativity around the topic of sex so I kept a lot of my experiences a secret. I also had a list and though I wasn’t as goal-oriented as the author of the list in question, my list had crushes I wanted to get with and the people who I already had sexual relations with and the sex acts we had done. If I could remember to do it I included the date when it happened. Often this was in list form, though sometimes it became journal entries. I gave blow-jobs, and hand-jobs, and people ate me out. Some people who keep clients record boundaries, fantasies, and even sadistic ideas they get, while other people even keep a journal specifically for their lover to read.

Juliette Stray replied at me “I used to keep a sex list too, though I don’t think I ever really checked any off. In slut solidarity we should make & post new ones.” If I made one it would probably chronicle the co-stars I’ve worked with and performers who I want to work with in the future. But to be honest, my co-stars are often lovers who are new to porn so any onscreen list I create would be, compared to my personal life, relatively short! Isn’t that ironic.

I sometimes get nervous watching a film that I’m in on the big screen in the company of friends and co-workers. But dammit, I’m excited about seeing this film. I’m also looking forward to supporting Courtney, a dear friend of mine. Some of you may recall that she and I co-starred in In Search of the Wild Kingdom/The Wild Search. Gender aside, I had an amazing time shooting my scene with Dallas Fivestar. It is a suspension scene and I really found the eroticism of the rope and my security in Fivestar’s hands. I feel happy to be recognized for my masculine parts, and am relieved that “genderqueer” (the term I currently use for myself…I’ve used many in the past) is included in the definition. I am sometimes nervous about where public perception ends and where “I” begin; “Jiz Lee” is just one part of who I am.

As a porn performer I see a lot of assumptions made about my person. I’ve read and heard myself referred to as soft-butch, woman, girl, lesbian, and even “Oriental” *sudder*. So being recognized in a way that acknowledges my particular self-identity is so exciting.

At the same time, being on a hierarchical list pulls up interesting emotions for me, such as awkward comparisons around the fact that my lover Syd is in the top ten (okay, she IS a hot mess!) or the fact that my lover Fivestar didn’t make the list at all — we all know how hot and talented Fivestar is! So I’ll try not to view the list as a “who’s who” but as a resource and positive celebration of what I myself have looked for on the internet to find someone whom I could relate to.

Everyone of us on or off the list is hot, especially when we are ourselves. Sure, there are many of us missing. However the intention was coming from a place of love and I think any oversight is misunderstanding, hence the update.

I find myself torn at the exclusion of the word “transmen” and the people associated to it. (Did they want to be removed? Also, I see others on the list who currently or have at various points identified as Trans, though who am I to say who should or shouldn’t be butch?) While I was contacted by Sinclair prior to appearing on the list, I’m not sure if everyone was. Personally speaking, I like seeing many masculine genders combined together. We all fall along different identities and while there’s many more identities to be represented, this list is wonderful for a first start.

I see butch as a noun, an adjective, and much more. A cisgender gay male has the right to identify as butch just as much as a transman or transwoman has the right to identify as butch, as femme, or as any other gender identity. While these are words with many contexts, we all deserve the right to identify and dis-identify. It’s the use of the list, this projected initiated by someone wanting to create a resource for others, the people out there googling and looking for reflections of themselves that I think about. If it were me looking, I’d love to see transmen included… maybe top hot queers will be the next installment? Go buy that URL and if you do, show the world our hotness.

UPDATE: Carol Queen replies to a question about Stone Butches and mentions the list on GV Magazine. Before last year, I hadn’t considered working for Kink.com because I thought I would be *forced* to shave. (And I DO shave sometimes, though I shave when I want to, not when it’s required.) I get asked pretty regularly, “How can I get in Porn?” About a year ago I wrote “Getting into Queer Porn” which listed some San Francisco porn companies to work with.

Getting into Porn Tips:

1. Be yourself. Sexy is being yourself. (Easier said than done!) You have your own style and your own unique sexuality. You don’t have to change a thing, and you can apply to work in queer porn without shaving your armpits.

2. Apply. Identify your favorite porn companies and look on their site (sometimes at the footer) for a contact or models link. Fill out the form as best and complete as you can; make sure to list activities you really want to do, or think you’d be good on film doing. If you have an idea of who you’d like to work with, suggest it. If the company has a premier or event, go to it and introduce yourself to make connections. (You can ask models or photographers about other companies to shoot for, or questions about fees, advice, etc…)

- Photos: have one that includes your whole face. Hipster shots are cool, but they don’t let the casting agent know what you look like. A full body shot is also appreciated; really, they just want to see your style. Abstract blur-motion shots of your belly don’t quite cut it either.

3. Be friendly and patient. Queer Porn companies often have small offices and may not be able to book you right away. Trying to bust your way through the door is not going to help get you on screen any faster. Just try another company and check back every month or so.

4. Practice. This might be the funnest part. Borrow a video camera from a friend and film a scene – solo, or otherwise. Watching yourself on screen, or noticing how it felt to have a camera present, could tell you a lot about what it might be like with more lights and a camera crew in the room. It can also shed light on what you’re comfortable doing on screen, and what you’re not. Bonus: If you’re comfortable, post it to XTube.com or Clips4Sale.com and see what it feels like to have an online audience. It might be worth it to question what it would feel like if a parent or sibling found the clip, to see if you’re really okay with doing porn.

5. Get online. Websites and twitter accounts are the new business card, and having a place online for directors and future co-stars to see you — more than just an email adderss — makes all the difference. Start off with having your pictures hosted on sites like OneModelPlace or ModelMayhem, or if you know how, jump on in with a blog (blogger or wordpress) or a cheap site through google or yahoo. Facebook or Myspace profiles should be public (18+) and be careful posting explicit images or your site could be deleted, other sites like DigiRomp and Fetlife allow for more explicit images. Either way, having an easy way to see you and contact you will increase your game.

I hope this advice helps. I don’t mind getting these questions from people and think everyone should give porn a shot. By writing this blog post I hope I covered your questions all at once. : )
