Art XX MagazineI’m busy with fingers to keyboard preparing an article for the next issue of Art XX Magazine.

When I was approached to be a regular contributor, I jumped at the chance. Having appeared in the first issue through an article about twincest, I knew the publication firsthand for its authentic approach to feminism and realistic view of ‘groundbreaking’ or ‘edgy’ artists. Even its name hangs with pregnancy, as the people behind the pages strive to create a title for their often uncategorical* collection of essays, photographs, interviews, and articles about (and beyond) “women in the arts”.  What’s in a name? I’m curious to see how a future issue challenges its own creation, while other themes and threads take it to the press.

Art XX Magazine is available online at ArtXXMagazine.com, and you should definitely become a subscriber. The print age is not dead; it’s just not all that profitable right now. Doesn’t mean it lacks value. In fact some might argue that the lack of commodity gives it more worth.

Meanwhile the deadline looms and I tap my toes at defining a name for my new column, and the prose behind the first editorial from me — a pro-porn, poly-amorous, sex-positive, artistically-complicated and theoretically aloof queer.

I’m trying to step-up my literary game, and my first piece will take on Jonah Lehrer “The Neuroscience of Porn” which I first posted about a year ago:

A blog [post] written by Jonah Lehrer “The Neuroscience of Porn” on ScienceBlogs.com poses the idea that we are aroused by watching porn because our brains believe that we are actually doing what we are seeing.

Today I found this post via a blog on Good Vibrations’ blog called “Why Porn Works”. The idea is fascinating and validates the vast different kinds of kink out there. When we relate to porn, and, when we don’t.

I love gay male porn, and I have a suspicion that I love it because it allows me to live vicariously through the talent — a social voyeurism if you will. While I’m watching the scene, I can yield an eight inch dong, and blow sperm all over a cute little twink’s stomach. Prior to lesbian porn with “real” lesbians, gay porn was the way to go. (As an aside, I’ve recently found myself totally getting off to Girl/Girl porn, but for different reasons — probably ones my first wave [oh shit more like 2nd wave, no?] feminist friends would disagree with, and roll their eyes at their gay for pay sisters.)

I had a great time watching my partner in the film “She’s My Man” by LFactor. In the scene, Syd was fucking a real-life crush, a star and a friend of hers, by the name of Rozen. I LOVED watching Syd get fucked by Rozen on screen. Why? Because I felt like I was fucking her, with the benefit of seeing everything about her reaction and alternate angles that actually having sex just doesn’t afford. Furthermore, whenever I’m watching a scene that both of us are in, I’m too distracted by my own performance to enjoy watching her reactions.

In conclusion, watching your partner in porn with someone is the best porn ever.

Almost a year of porn-making and blog-writing has passed, and now I’m addressing the topic again. Champion features another scene in which two of my lovers have sex with each other, providing a new perspective on this theory. (Result: Major Hard-on.)

Aright, back to the books…

*Yes, I’m aware that “uncategorical” is not a word. I like it for this reason.
