2024 Year in Review

As tradition goes, I archive the year in review. The highlights. The wins. The big and exciting events. This year was a blur! Time slips by faster and faster. Where is my freeze ray? Here’s what I remember of the year. Thanks to reviewing posts on social media (which now has largely focused on BlueSky as it doesn’t have ridiculous bans on sexual expression). I’m a BlueSky elder, but made the X-odus this year. (Join me at BlueSky!)

Erotic & Other Arts

grid of art photos

Photos from my 2023 shoot with April Flores by Ellen Stagg were posted. Check them out and follow Ellen’s work at StaggStreet. <3 In October I co-directed a film with Robin Astera and Rae Threat, which is set to release early 2025. I hope it will tour festivals! The film takes place in a car as we drive through the streets of Berlin — a metaphor for navigating trans masculine desire and queer libration as well as an homage to Homobiles’ queer cab service, GMHC’s “Car Service” gay taxi porn from the 1980’s, and the dream of a world that is safe to travel freely. More on that to come… I posed for photographer Bobby Gordon, the outcome of which is composited in this year’s holiday card. I acted in a role for Madison Young’s upcoming film and I think that’s the most I can reveal about it for now, but it was a wonderful homage to the San Francisco sex-positive art scene of the 2000’s.

Written Works & XXXtra Curricular

The second edition of Coming Out Like a Porn Star released in October. We took it on tour with a launch party in New York at BlueStockings books, with Annie Sprinkle and Dr. Carol Queen at Green Apple, with the Center for Sex & Culture at Litquake SF, PornFilmFestival Berlin, PLURA virtual chat, and in January 2025 we’ll have a special panel as part of the XBiz 360 conference. I’ll be joined by Siri Dahl, Arabelle Raphael, Tina Horn, and special guest Mickey Mod.

The book got a mention in Alta Journal, Autostraddle, THEM Magazine, Full Stop Magazine, The Stranger, and the topic was revisited by one of its original contributors, Ms. Naughty. It was also added to the SWAP – Sex Workers’ Action Program Hamilton at the Hamilton Public Library. You can purchase a signed copy through my store, or ‘pay it forward’ and donate so that I can gift one to a sex worker group.

The Porn Studies Journal, of which I am an Editorial Board Member, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Special Issue honoring Linda Williams: Body, Genre, Apparatus: Re-reading Linda Williams on Pornography. (Revisit my speical issue on porn and labour.)

In the news, I discussed gender and pay gaps in porn for Pop Sugar and ethical porn viewership in Pride.com. And I was thankful to be given the opportunity to share my year highlights for The Queer Review: Films by late Christopher Lee whose films were digitized for streaming this year on PinkLabel.TV, and honoring Apollo Moon who passed this month. With so much censorship on social media, other sources like these are really helpful in spreading the word about our work.

I also did a fair amount of public speaking, appearing in talks at MIT, University of Toronto, the Adult Industry Only event at the PornFilmFestival Berlin, a special project on Feminist Sex Wars for HBO which probably will not be used but was a great experience and we were treated very well, and even testified briefly at the state capital against the current age verification bills.

Pink & White AKA the best job ever!

2024 marked my 11th anniversary working as Marketing Director for Pink and White Productions. (And 2025 will mark my 20th anniversary porn since the debut of The Crash Pad in 2005.) My work behind the scenes with Shine Louise Houston and PW Inc began in 2007, when I came on as a part-time Affiliate Manager, coordinating with sex bloggers and reviewers to help spread the word about CrashPadSeries.com. Over time, I acquired more rolls and responsibilities at our small company. My responsibilities these days include working on set as Production Assistant (and this year helped cheer as the studio filmed its 400th episode, licensing new titles on PinkLabel.TV, and Marketing both sites as well as the annual San Francisco PornFilmFestival, which celebrated its 5th year and included workshops on editing adult film and intimacy coordination.

Resolutions

I’ve got too many interests and desires to cram into 24 hours. Read more books! Sleep longer! Drink more water. Devote at least one hour every day to my physical (and mental) health. (For both short-term and long-term impact.) Post more on OnlyFans! (That’s a big one.) Make a list of goals and break them into smaller, attainable goals to complete daily, weekly, monthly… Write up my end of year recap before December 31st so that I can go out and enjoy the evening!

What are your resolutions? #Goals4Goals!
